What is on Canada's sanctions list

Canada's own sanctions

The list names the people, entities and ships under regulations made under the Special Economic Measures Act (SEMA) and the Justice for Victims of Corrupt Foreign Officials Act, often called Canada's Magnitsky law. These are sanctions Canada imposes itself, under regimes such as those on Russia, Belarus, Iran and Myanmar.

What it leaves out

UN Security Council sanctions, which Canada applies under the United Nations Act, are not on this list. We load the UN list separately, so the same search covers them. The terrorist entities listed under Canada's Criminal Code are a separate list again, and OFACScreen does not screen it.

What each entry records

The name and any aliases, the regime the listing falls under, the schedule of the regulation that lists it and the date of listing.

Who has to follow it

Canadian sanctions apply to everyone in Canada and to Canadian citizens and companies abroad. A US or UK business with Canadian customers, suppliers or owners may also be asked by its bank or its partners to screen against the Canadian list.

A free result shows the matched name, the list and a score. The $9.99 PDF report records the search with its date and time and includes the date of listing Canada publishes for each match.
