What the SDN list means for you

Who is on it

Individuals, companies, vessels and aircraft that OFAC has designated under US sanctions programs, from country programs such as Iran, Russia and North Korea to counter-terrorism, narcotics trafficking and malicious cyber activity. Each entry names the program it is listed under.

What a listing does

The property and interests in property of a listed person that are in the United States or held by a US person are blocked, and US persons are generally prohibited from dealing with them.

Companies they own are blocked too

Under OFAC's 50 percent rule, a company owned 50 percent or more, directly or indirectly, by one or more blocked persons is blocked as well, whether or not it is named on the list. A clear result on the company's own name does not settle who owns it.

What an entry records

The names and aliases OFAC publishes, with any dates of birth, nationalities, addresses, passport and ID numbers, and digital currency addresses. Search a wallet address exactly as listed and the entry that carries it comes back.

What to do with a match

Compare the date of birth, address and ID numbers on the entry with what you know about your customer. If it is the same party, block or reject the transaction and report it to OFAC within 10 business days.
