A true match starts a ten business day clock
On a confirmed match you block the property and file a report with OFAC within 10 business days, under 31 CFR 501.603.
Being a protocol has not worked as a defense
OFAC designated Tornado Cash in August 2022. The Fifth Circuit ruled in late 2024 that OFAC had exceeded its statutory authority, and Treasury delisted the protocol in March 2025. Roman Semenov, a co-founder designated separately in 2023, is still on the SDN List.
Names and addresses are two different screens
A user can pass a clean name check and still send funds from a sanctioned wallet, and a wallet can look clean while the person behind it is designated under a fresh alias. This tool screens names, so pair it with on-chain analytics if you settle on-chain.
